ORAZIETTI ANNOUNCES $213,386 FOR INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS IN SAULT STE. MARIE

Ontario Providing Vital Job Experience to Northern Youth

Sault Ste. Marie – Youth in Sault Ste. Marie will continue to gain important work experience thanks to newly funded internship placements through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) Internship program, announced David Orazietti MPP.

 

“The Northern Ontario Internship Program is designed to attract and retain talent in the North,” said Orazietti. “Our government is committed to investing in the future of Ontario’s recent graduates, and today’s announcement will give seven post-secondary students an opportunity to gain valuable training and experience right here in Sault Ste. Marie.”

 

With an NOHFC investment of $213,386, seven organizations are receiving funding for a youth job placement through the NOHFC Internship Program:

 

            $62,987           Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (2 interns) 

 

            $31,498           Algoma Family Services Foundation

 

            $31,498           St. Luke’s Cathedral

 

            $57,451           Algoma University

 

            $29,952           Pauline’s Place Non Profit Homes Inc.

 

The NOHFC Internship Program strengthens Northern Ontario’s competitive advantage and builds economic development capacity by attracting and retaining graduates in the North. University and college graduates who have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university are eligible for internship placements.  Candidates must be graduates of post-secondary degree or diploma programs.

 

Investing in youth employment training and development is part of Ontario's four-part plan to build Ontario up. The plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.

  • In Sault Ste. Marie, the NOHFC has invested over $104 million in 863 projects, creating or sustaining more than 3,244 jobs since 2003
  • More than 60% of participants in the Northern Ontario Internship Program obtain full time employment after completing their job placement
  • Ontario is supporting job placements through the NOHFC’s Northern Ontario Internship Program, which has invested more than $21.4 million in 845 internships over the last two years.
